Adult Summer Improv Workshops

Improv Scene Work Brush-Up: Sunday June 23 | 3-6pm

Summer is here and it’s time to brush-up your improv skills. Stretch those improv muscles, beef up your choices, and heighten the stakes of your scene work. Using long-form scene work skills you will build upon short-form scenes, push yourself to make bolder choices, and feel the heat and weight of each scenario. (Beginner to Intermediate students) Registration Fee: $35


Don’t Just Stand There! Physicality in Improv: Sunday July 21 | 3-6pm

Don’t just stand there–MOVE! Improv is about physicality, movement, and taking big risks. This workshop will encourage you to make bold choices and wide gestures. Get out of your head and into an improv scene, add depth to your scene work, and create physical gestures and characters to use in performance. (Beginner to Intermediate students) Registration Fee: $35


Yes, And… What Do You Do Next?: Sunday August 18 | 3-6pm

You’ve made a choice….now what? This workshop will look at the fundamentals of improv scene work pushing you into new territories. Improv is about physicality, bold choices, story, and heightened scenarios. Strengthen your actions, build up your scene work skills, and connect deeper with your scene partners. This is a great workshop for new and returning students looking to refine their skills. (Beginner to Intermediate students) Registration Fee: $35


Improv Jams

Each 3-hour workshop will be followed by an Improv Jam that is open to all workshop participants, past Playhouse Improv students, and additional invited guest performers. The Jam will be open to the public, so invite your family and friends to see you perform. Each Jam will take place in the Theatre Cafe at Playhouse on the Square @7pm following the workshop. Tickets will be $5 with a cash bar.


Laurel George, member of The Bluff City Liars improv team, has studied at iO Chicago and performed on a Harold team for two years. Studying at Second City and Annoyance Theater, she was a founding member/Director for Funny Bones Improv. In Pittsburgh, she performed at Arcade Comedy Theatre and Steel City Improv. In Tulsa, she coached, taught and produced/created 2 improv teams.
