Whether you are a beginner who is exploring performance for the first time or a seasoned actor continuing your career, Playhouse on the Square’s Adult Theatre School classes offer theatrical training experience to suit any need. Taught by prominent local theatre professionals, our classes give students the opportunity to develop and expand their performance skills, including character development, movement, voice, and an awareness of proper audition practices. The session spans nine weeks, which includes eight weeks of classwork/rehearsal, and an informal showcase performance for family and friends the ninth week.

Basics for the Beginning Actor – $150
Mondays, 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Did you see a show at Playhouse and think, “That looks like fun!”? Have you always wanted to try your hand at acting, but never got around to it? If so, this class is for you. Participants will explore character development and intention through scenes and monologues. Students will also learn theatrical terminology, where to look for performance opportunities, and what to expect when auditioning for a play. This is the perfect class for people who have always wanted to explore their creative talents in a non-threatening, supportive environment.
Introduction to Tap Dance – $150
Mondays, 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Ask any musical director what they always need more of and the answer will be universal: TAP DANCERS! And it is never too late to learn this fun, energetic and entertaining style that helped define the American musical. This class is an introductory course for people of any age with no previous tap experience, just a desire to learn and grow.
Advanced Acting: Villains – $150
Mondays, 7:30pm – 9:00pm
Have you ever wanted to be bad… or even downright evil? Take a walk on the Dark Side as you step into the minds of the greatest villains in all of dramatic literature. In this entertaining and introspective course we explore the nature of villainy as you learn the techniques and tradework necessary to be the baddest person on stage.
Musical Theatre – $150
Mondays, 7:30 – 9:00PM
Sing your heart out! Singing for musical theatre is not just hitting the right notes, but also selling the song! Students in this class will explore musical theatre songs, learn their singing ranges, and prepare musical theatre pieces for the showcase. Through this, participants will come to understand proper selection of music for auditions, how to develop a through song, and how to find comfortability on stage while singing. This is a good class for everyone from the beginner to the seasoned performer!
