Whether you are a beginner who is exploring performance for the first time or a seasoned actor continuing your career, Playhouse on the Square’s Adult Theatre School classes offer theatrical training experience to suit any need. Taught by prominent local theatre professionals, our classes give students the opportunity to develop and expand their performance skills, including character development, movement, voice, and an awareness of proper audition practices. The session spans eight weeks, which includes seven weeks of classwork/rehearsal, and an informal showcase performance for family and friends the eighth week.

Essentials of Acting – $150
Mondays 6:00pm – 7:30pm *Additional Spots Added*
See a show at Playhouse and think, “That looks like fun!”? Have you always wanted to try your hands at acting, but never got around to it? If so, this class is for you! Participants will explore character development and intention through scenes and monologues. Students will also learn theatrical terminology, where to look for performance opportunities, and what to expect when auditioning for a play. This is the perfect class for people who have always wanted to explore their creative talents in a non-threatening, supportive environment.

Advanced Acting: Tragedy – $150
Mondays 7:30pm – 9:00pm *Additional Spots Added*
From the Ancient Greeks to Shakespeare to Arthur Miller to TV shows like Breaking Bad and This Is Us. Tragedy has been with us as humans since the beginning. In this class learn how to analyze a character and learn how to meet tragic stories head on. Tackle a world bigger than life as you deepen confidence in your craft and in your self.


Musical Theatre Dance – $150
Mondays 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Explore the techniques and evolution of musical theatre dance. From Fred Astaire to Bob Fosse, from Jerome Robbins to Susan Stroman, from Oklahoma to Chicago, and everything in between. This class is a great introduction to the ever-growing world of musical theatre dance. This is a class for dancers of any level. Learn new techniques or refresh the moves you know. Put on your jazz shoes, strap on your Kinky Boots, and spend a night On the Town.

Take on Me: The 80’s – $150
Mondays 7:30pm – 9:00pm *New Class Series*
Big hair, big makeup, big stars, and big moves! Turn Back Time and Take On the 80’s with hit after hit from one of the biggest decades of music and dance! In here Madonna is Queen and Michael Jackson is King! Get ready to Walk Like an Egyptian, Vogue, Whip It, and Rock the Casbah all in a Flashdance. This class kicks off our Decades of Dance series where students can visit the past hits, kicks, and moves of the 20th Century in dance. So Come on Eileen, put on your leg warmers, slide on that spandex, and grab that hairspray, it’s time to let out your inner Super Freak, go Footloose, Push It, and Let’s Dance!


Musical Theatre 101 – $150
Mondays 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Sing out, Louise! Singing for Musical Theatre is not just hitting the right notes, but also selling the song! Students in this class will explore classic and contemporary songs, find their singing ranges and prepare musical theatre performances for the stage. Throughout the class participants will come to understand proper selection of music for their voice, how to develop a character through song, and how to find comfort on stage while singing. This is a great class for the beginner and seasoned performer!

Early Bird- $10
Register before December 15 to receive $10 off each class.
