Whether you are a beginner who is exploring performance for the first time or a seasoned actor continuing your career, Playhouse on the Square’s Adult Theatre School classes offer theatrical training experience to suit any need. Taught by prominent local theatre professionals, our classes give students the opportunity to develop and expand their performance skills, including character development, movement, voice, and an awareness of proper audition practices. The session spans nine weeks, which includes eight weeks of classwork/rehearsal, and an informal showcase performance for family and friends the ninth week.

Basics for the Beginning Actor – $150
Mondays, 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Did you see a show at Playhouse and think, “That looks like fun!”? Have you always wanted to try your hand at acting, but never got around to it? If so, this class is for you. Participants will explore character development and intention through scenes and monologues. Students will also learn theatrical terminology, where to look for performance opportunities, and what to expect when auditioning for a play. This is the perfect class for people who have always wanted to explore their creative talents in a non-threatening, supportive environment.
10 Minute Playwriting – $150
Mondays, 7:00pm – 8:30pm
Have you always had an idea for a play but could never fully flesh it out? Join playwright Teri Feigelson as you learn the craft of playwriting by conceiving, writing and developing your own 10 minute play over the course of this 8 week program. Students will learn the basics of structure, dialogue and scene creation while developing their own personal voice and style. This class is for writers of any experience level.
Jazz Dance for Adults – $150
Mondays, 7:30pm – 9:00pm
It’s never too late to start your dance training! This class will introduce you to the world of theatrical choreography as you learn the steps, styles and techniques that you will need when you get to an audition dance call. Build confidence in the this class that will improve both your body and your mind as you learn the process behind the art form. This is a class designed for people with little to no experience who want to prepare for musicals or just learn to move. No previous dance training is required, just a willingness to get in there and break a sweat.
