Based on the Roald Dahl novel of the same name, Matilda is the story of an extraordinary girl with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind whose talents are constantly belittled by her cruel parents, and hostile headmistress the wicked Miss Trunchbull. Reclusive, but with an ever-growing imagination and sharp mind, Matilda dreams of a better life – and proves that no matter your age you have the power to control your own destiny.

Adult Auditions: Sunday, January 27, 6pm (Some may be asked to return for a dance call later in the evening)

WHERE: Playhouse on the Square, 66 South Cooper Street, 38104.  Sign-in in the Main Lobby.

CASTING: We are casting Male and Female Children/Young Adult Singer/Dancers, Ages 8-15; and Male and Female Adult Singer/Dancers, Ages 18 and Up.  ALL ethnicities are welcomed and encouraged to attend! Please Note** All roles are currently open though some adult roles may be filled by members of our Resident Company. For a full character breakdown, please see below.

WHAT TO PREPARE:  Please prepare 16-32 bars of a musical theatre song with piano accompaniment.  Actors are welcome to sing from the show though it is not required.  Please bring a headshot and resume if possible.  For younger actors that may not have a resume, please bring some kind of photo with you that the theatre can keep in our files.

Matilda is directed and choreographed by debuting Guest Artist Jim Christian and Music Directed by Nathan McHenry.  The show begins rehearsals on May 14, 2019.  The show runs June 21 – July 14, 2019.



Matilda Wormwood, Age 8-11, Gender: Female; An imaginative girl who is clever and wise far beyond her years. She has a thirst for learning that cannot be quenched.

Michael Wormwood, Gender: Male, Age: 10 to 15; Matilda’s older brother. He is not very bright and favored by their parents.

Bruce, Gender: Male, Age: 8 to 14; Matilda’s classmate. He is subject to extreme punishment by Miss Trunchbull.

Lavender, Gender: Female, Age: 8 to 10; Matilda’s classmate and friend.



Miss Agatha Trunchbull, Gender: Male/Female, Age: 35 to 55; The tyrannical headmistress at Matilda’s school who despises children.

Miss Honey, Gender: Female, Age: 25 to 40; Matilda’s kindhearted teacher. She is tired of living in fear under Miss Trunchbull.

Mr. Wormwood, Gender: Male, Age: 35 to 45; Matilda’s uncaring father. A slimy, greedy used-car salesman.

Mrs. Wormwood, Gender: Female, Age: 35 to 45; Matilda’s self-absorbed, negligent mother and an amateur ballroom dancer.

Mrs. Phelps, Gender: Female, Age: 25 to 45; A nice librarian.
